There was a crisp freshness in the air at Muir Woods, which grows lighter, quieter, the deeper in you walk, and barely a hundred metres before you feel entirely engulfed. Trees here are giants, but not yet the clustered beasts further up north; it is easy to imagine other kinds here, away from people and time. Perhaps American versions of Elvenkind. Happiness must involve a free imagination.
I would recommend heading there (very) early to explore a full circuit- you’d be easily seduced into passing by 4-5 hours, and the last bus leaves around 5pm. Digest a Hamburger while waiting for the hourly Muir Woods ride, and then wander the trails as the sun plays with the many greens and browns over the course of the day.
One of two banana slugs spotted on the entrance walkway.
